Creating a Biography:

We urge you to create a biography by emailing me (robjohnson9@comcast.net) with your biography.   If you are brave enough and technically savy, you can enter your own biography yourself on this page by clicking on the "My Settings" button in the box below where it says "Hi, yourname" and then clicking on the "My Classmates Profile" tab.  Enter your text in the green box in the middle of the page that is displayed.  Use the controls immediately above the green box to set the font, its size, bolding etc.  You can even set a link to another page by clicking on the little chain link symbol and entering the URL for the page. Be SURE to scroll down and click the "Submit" button towards the end of the page when you are finished or you will lose EVERYTHING!!!  We hope to hear from you soon!

After leaving FCHS, I began my college career at Penn State University’s main campus. Since no one else in our class attended PSU, I had little, if any, connection with my former FCHS classmates. I ended up graduating with a degree in Administrative Management. I learned a lot and made lifelong friends during my four years there. I also started to go by Lew instead of my full name. I weathered the student unrest of spring 1970, although many parents freaked out when they heard about the Kent State shootings and thought they said Penn State instead. Fortunately “Happy Valley” was happy, for the most part anyway. Of course, there were surreal moments, such as when the lottery draft numbers were announced on the radio to the strains of Blood, Sweat, and Tears playing “When I Die”. My number was 260, so I didn’t end up having to serve. I have nothing but respect for those who did serve then and do so now.

I started my career at IBM in Bethesda in October 1973. The Information Technology field (Data Processing back then) was an interesting place to be, considering that it is populated by many people with high technical needs and low social needs. I ended up pursuing a career as a programmer and did that for nine years before getting into management. After working for IBM almost twenty years, I was laid off in 1993. The rest of my career was spent in the government contracting area with pit stops at CDSI, Dyncorp, EDS, Systems and Software Consortium, and BAE Systems. In my last assignment at BAE, I ended up being site factotum for a group that tested batteries for the government. Activities included process improvement, business continuity, inventory manager, safety, etc.

I moved to Maryland in 1974 and over the years have called Gaithersburg, Wheaton, Kensington, and now Rockville, home. My wife Pat and I have lived in the same house in Rockville since 1987, where we raised our two daughters Rebecca and Deborah. We like where we live, and it has the benefit of being within easy driving distance of our two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Naomi.

I am now retired after working for 45 years. My pursuits include golfing (typically once a week), working on my antique car (1957 Ford Thunderbird), going on long walks with our golden retriever Cinnamon, and working around the house. My wife and I are also active at our church (Fourth Presbyterian in Bethesda) which continues to be a blessing to us. I am a member of the Potomac Classic Thunderbird Club and have served as the editor of the club newsletter for the last 16 years. Recently, I have enjoyed taking a number of courses through The Great Courses and looking forward to doing more photography.

I wish my fellow classmates nothing but success in all of your future endeavors.

In high school, I worked (Village House, Dart Drug) most of my junior and senior years and was not very involved with our class.  Many of you will not remember me, but I have many fond memories of being at Falls Church High School.

I married Robert Clancy, class of ’66, in August, 1969 and moved to Lawrence, Kansas where he was a senior at Kansas University.   Along with the 50th class reunion, we will celebrate our 50th anniversary on the Big Island, Hawaii on August 16, 2019.

Much has happened in those 50 years, as it has with many of you!  Our first daughter, Stacey, was born in Lawrence on January 1, 1971.  In the summer of ’71 we moved to Daytona Beach, Florida for 9 months awaiting Bob’s time at Ft. Benning as a 1st Lt., US Army.  We spent 3 months at Ft. Benning.  After Bob’s short stint with the Army, going from active duty to reserve duty, we moved to the Dallas, Texas area, specifically Plano and have remained in Texas since then.  Our second daughter, Tiffany, was born on December 26, 1975.  Our daughters did not like sharing their birthdays with the holidays, but we worked hard to make their birthdays special!

Bob went into the telecommunications industry and I was a stay at home mom while our daughters were young.  After the girls were in school, I worked at various companies as an administrative assistant.  My longest employment until 2001 was with our church and Christian school where I was the administrative assistant and office manager for 16 years.  It was a wonderful opportunity to be where our girls went to school.

In 2001, Bob and I started our own consulting company providing quality consulting in the telecommunications industry.  My role as president and CEO was the administration, sales, and marketing.  The company became successful and enabled me to travel to Europe, India, China, and across the United States as a speaker and trainer.  We worked with companies like AT&T, CenturyLink, Verizon and others, along with many small, diverse minority companies.  In 2009, we were nominated for the Southwest’s Women’s Business Enterprise of the year.  I was on the leadership team and Executive Board of an international quality organization for the telecommunications industry for several years.  Our company allowed for many exciting opportunities to help companies grow and to meet some truly terrific companies and people.

Going into retirement, we look forward to spending time with our 4 grandchildren; Jonathan, 26 and a high school English teacher in the Houston area, Jarret, a senior at Kansas University and going into coaching and teaching.  Jarret was married in May, 2019 to his wife, Giordan.  Caleb is our precious 9 year old 4th grader and Logan is our sweet granddaughter that is 6 and going into first grade.   They keep us busy!

Stacey is mom to Jonathan and Jarret and started out as a high school English teacher but for the last 10 years, as an entrepreneur with her latest project being a Nothing Bundt Cake franchise in Allen, Texas.  Tiffany is mom to Caleb and Logan and has her own private practice as a counselor and therapist working mostly with military men and women with PTSD and other related issues in the Denton, Texas area.

We have been so blessed throughout these 50 years.  We have had our ups and downs as I am sure many of you have, but we are so thankful for all that the Lord has done for us.

I am sorry to miss the reunion and hope all have a fabulous time catching up!
